From Trade Show Conversation to 1,200 Units: How One Meeting Turned into a Real Project
In the display manufacturing industry, exhibitions are often where the first real conversation begins. Emails and catalogs can introduce products, but when buyers can see the displays in person, touch the materials, and discuss ideas face to face, decisions move much faster.
For our factory, international trade shows are always an important opportunity to meet potential customers. We manufacture different kinds of phone accessories displays, including stands for phone cases, charging cables, screen protectors, and other small electronic accessories. Many of our clients are mobile phone brands, distributors, and retail stores that need organized and attractive retail display solutions.
Last year, we exhibited at the Global Sources Consumer Electronics Show held at AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong. The show attracts buyers from Europe, the United States, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Preparing Displays for the Show
Before the exhibition, our team spent several weeks preparing samples. At our booth, we presented a variety of retail display stands, including:
- Countertop displays for phone cases

- Acrylic stands for chargers and cables
- Compact displays for headphones and small electronics
Most of these displays are made from clear acrylic, sometimes combined with metal hooks or printed panels. Acrylic is widely used in retail display manufacturing because it is clean-looking, durable, and helps products stand out.
One of our popular designs was a compact phone charger display for small retail counters. Another was a rotating phone case display rack, allowing stores to showcase multiple products while saving space.
A European Buyer Stops at the Booth
On the second day of the exhibition, a European buyer stopped at our booth. He carefully examined one of the displays and asked:
"Do you manufacture these displays yourself?"
"Yes," I replied. "We are a factory specializing in custom acrylic retail displays."
He introduced himself as Lukas, a purchasing manager for a mobile accessories distributor in Europe. His company supplies phone cases and chargers to electronics stores and telecom retailers.
Pointing at a rotating rack, he said:
"This is interesting, but our stores usually have limited space. Something smaller may be better."
I showed him a more compact countertop display.
"This design is suitable for smaller retail spaces," I explained. "It can hold phone cases on the top shelves and charging cables below."
He leaned closer.
"How many products can it hold?"
"About 30 to 40 packages," I said. "But we can adjust the structure based on your needs."
Talking About Customization
Like many buyers, Lukas was not just looking for a standard product-he needed a custom display solution.
He asked several key questions:
"Can we print our logo?"
"Can the size be adjusted?"
"Is the material strong enough?"
I explained:
- Logo printing can be done using UV printing or silk screen
- Dimensions can be fully customized
- Acrylic thickness can be adjusted depending on product weight
We talked for about 15 minutes.
Before leaving, he said:
"Maybe after the show we can discuss more details."
Following Up After the Exhibition
About one week after the show, I sent a follow-up email.
"Hello Lukas, it was nice meeting you at the Hong Kong exhibition. Please let me know if you would like a quotation for the phone accessories display we discussed."
Soon after, Lukas replied :
"Yes, we are interested. Maybe we can arrange a video meeting to talk about the design."
So we scheduled a video call.
During the call, he explained that their stores sell multiple accessories together, so they needed a multi-functional display stand.
I presented a design concept:
- Upper shelves for phone cases
- Lower hooks for cables
He suggested:
"Maybe the shelves should be slightly angled so customers can see the packaging better."
We agreed to develop a prototype.
The First Prototype
Within 5 days, we completed the first sample and shipped it to Europe.
After receiving it, Lukas said:
"The structure looks good, but the hook spacing needs adjustment."
This is very common in custom retail display projects. The first sample is rarely perfect.
The Second Sample
We adjusted:
- Hook spacing
- Shelf height
The second version fit their packaging much better.
After internal discussion with his team, Lukas said:
"I think we can move forward with the project."
Confirming the First Order
After finalizing all details, the client placed their first order:

- Product dimensions
- Logo printing
- Packaging
- Shipping schedule
Production then started smoothly.
